Free Termite Inspections

Hello Readers,

Today we’re going to talk about Free Termite Inspections.

Now getting something for “Free” is only fun if the “something” has real value. So if one were to contract for a termite inspection in San Diego or Los Angeles with a licensed inspector how much would a home termite inspection cost?

Well readers I hate to do this to you but it really does depend on the situation. For instance, Hi Tech Termite Control offers Free termite inspections in all of San Diego County and Los Angeles County for home and property owners, but a termite inspection in San Diego or Los Angeles counties for a real estate agent closing an escrow might run between 50 and a couple hundred dollars depending on the size of the property.

So what is a termite inspection? As a property owner or manager what should you expect when a professional termite inspector comes to your home or other property?

Your Hi-Tech Termite Control inspector is a professional, licensed by the California Structural Pest Control Board. He will methodically examine your structure inside and out. A professional termite inspector will 1st visually inspect readily accessible areas of the home for signs of wood destroying insects or fungus. The inspector inspects the entire home, as well as basements and crawlspaces and exterior. In houses where there are no crawl spaces or basements, the inspector will inspect the attic.

You should expect a proper inspection, depending on the size of the property, to take between 45 minutes to an hour or more. The inspector will give the resident (or owner) of the property a verbal and written report of their findings and recommendations.  They are also required to issue a report that is filed with the state structural pest control board.

That’s what to expect from a professional termite inspection.

Homeowners Insurance and Termites

Hello Readers,

Today we’re going to talk about homeowners insurance and termites. Oh brother, talk about your adult topics. After that how about we get into foods that cause gout and tax deductibles? Oy.

As it turns out some things in life just can’t be avoided and really are better if you face them head on. Some things get everybody, like death and taxes. Other of lifes’ little indignities are reserved for those of us who own or manage properties. Which brings us back to the topic at hand:  Does insurance cover damages from a termite infestation?

And, dear readers, I’m sorry to report that there is currently no homeowners insurance protection for termite infestations. However, in classic bureaucratic wisdom, there may be coverage for resulting damage to the structure depending on the type and scope of coverage you purchased. Having fun yet?
Alas, my less then perfect readers, in the eyes of insurance carriers making termite control part of a normal maintenance routine is considered part of your responsibility as a property owner. ( huh. I think I see a need for general “loose end I didn’t deal with” insurance ;)

So where does that leave us, the not always perfect, but wanting to do the right thing, property owner? At the mercy of natures most perfect wood processing creature? Fortunately no! Heroic termite control service companies like Hi Tech Termite Control can come to the rescue with service warranty that provide for regular corrective or preventative treatments performed to the structure.

Hi-Tech offers a full-structure control service agreement for two years on drywood termites. And unlike most companies, Hi-Tech covers any new areas of infestation that may occur during the service agreement period. Extended control service agreements are also available and transferable if you sell your property.

Hi-Tech also offers service contracts on Subteranean Termites. Most companies don’t.

So call the Hi-Tech Team, your source for free termite inspections in San Diego and all it’s surrounding areas.

I’ll have more on your termite control options in future posts. Remember if you are in need of San Diego termite exterminator call Hi-Tech today!

Hello Readers!

Today we’re going to talk about termites in San Diego, California.

Everyone loves the weather in San Diego. Did I say everyone? I meant every thing. Are there termites in San Diego? Yes, there are. Termites love San Diego. And what do they do for fun? Same thing they do for work. Eat your house.

There are three main types of termite a property owner in San Diego needs to be mindful of: dampwood, drywood and subterranean termites. Check em out!

  • Dampwood Termites Dampwood Termites
  • drywood termites Drywood Termites
  • subterranean termites Subterranean Termites

A termites’ single mindedness is just amazing. 1st order of business? Survive. And for the termites in San Diego?  Their survival strategy is secretly hiding and thriving in your attic or yard. I say secretly because there won’t be any immediate signs of damage. At least to a humane perspective, but we’re often the last to know. So yeah, termites live in San Diego and all homes, regardless of their construction type,  provide ideal conditions for termite infestation.

Look at those pictures above again. Do you see those mouths?  A termite’s mouth is capable of tearing large pieces of food. Talk about a death from a thousand cuts! And while termites only measure about a centimeter in length, they don’t like to eat alone. Table for 500? And I’ll tell ya, when this party pulls away from the table (which they don’t actually. Ever.) not only have they racked up a expensive check in damage to your property, but they swarm and skip out on the bill!

But it’s not as bad as all that because we’re here to detect and present that bill and it’s gonna cost them (they’re lives) if you call us. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Wood Repair from Termite Damage

Hello Readers!

Today we’re going to talk about wood damage from termites and how Hi Tech Termite control can help. We have lots of experience in wood repair from termite damage.

Termites consume wooden structures for nutrition. They especially like fresh wood, but they will devour older wood if nothing else is available. The damage this consumption does to your house or property is often unseen.

Did I mention that Hi Tech offers a free termite inspection? Well we do! During your free termite inspection your inspector will look for and call to your attention wood repair that’s needed on your structure. But that’s not all; he will alert you to another sometimes more serious issue and this is where it really pays to have some experience on your side.

That’s right, I’m talking about Dry Rot; good old fashioned Serpula lacrymans, a wood-destroying fungus that is found in most parts of the world. It’s best known for its ability to destroy timbers in ships and buildings.

This is where the experience comes in. Determining whether your structural damage has been caused by termites, dry rot or another wood-destroying fungus. Now termites can seriously damage the structure of a house or building. But they are slow.  In contrast dry rot has the ability to travel through building materials other than timber, giving outbreaks the potential to spread quickly through a building.

Years ago, it was considered sufficient to have only have a termite inspection performed before purchasing real estate.  If there was no evidence of an active termite infestation, it was assumed that the building had no termite damage or structural damage. These days of course more advanced detection techniques often can reveal serious termite or other damage to the structure of the building.

When this occurs during an inspection and if repairs are needed, our inspector can help you understand the expenses and negotiate a price for repairs.

So if you discover wood damage from termites signs on your property, be concerned, but don’t panic.  You have time to get the right termite exterminator/structural repair company. Of course it’s always a good idea to work with a termite company that is properly licensed and qualified like your Hi-Tech Termite Control team; your source for free termite inspections in Los Angeles, San Diego and all it’s surrounding areas

I’ll have more on your termite control and wood repair options for damage from termites in future posts. Remember if your a victim of wood damage from termites call Hi-Tech today!

Termite Exterminator

Hello Readers!

Today we’re going to talk about, que the Sergio Leone western soundtrack, “Termite Eterminators”.

Getting rid of termites in your home or building is, as a general rule, not a simple deal. Say one discovers an infestation of fleas or roaches in your home. Often these pests can be dealt with by using over-the-counter products. This is not the case with a drywood or subterranian termite infestation.

In truth lots of household chemicals will kill termites. If your lucky enough and are able to get the chemicals on them. Getting the right chemicals and applying them to the entire termite infestation is the trick and that requires special tools and training.

I love this part. This is when Hi Tech Termite Control rides in! On a truck though, not a horse. Though that would be great.

When one of our inspectors comes to your home, he will first verify that termites are the culprit. As it turns out there are other insects like carpenter bees and some species of ants that can also do damage to your property.  Some people may also mistake water damage for termite damage. In many instances Hi Tech can help with wood repair too. I’ll write a post about that another time.

Our inspector will use long probes, heat sensors, sound sensors, infrared cameras, hammers and drills to look for termite damage and most importantly determine the extent of the infestation.

If one of our inspectors finds conclusive signs of termites and determines the size of the colony he’ll outline to you some options you have:

  • Chemical treatments can be used when microwaving proves impractical.
Hi-Tech utilizes Termidor injections. Termidor spreads like a virus through a termite colony to eliminate it.
  • Fumigation is going to be the last and best resort if your inspector discovers heavy infestation in several areas that are mostly inaccessible.

I’ve written before how dedicated termites are. They’re bots man! They don’t get tired or bored and never take a day off. But they are small. So it takes years for termites to do significant damage to a home.

So if you discover termite signs on your property, be concerned, but don’t panic  you have time to get the right termite exterminator. Before making a decision, compare Hi Tech’s warranty or guarantee with other offers. And of course it’s always a good idea to work with a termite exterminator that is properly licensed and qualified. Signs of Termites in Your Home or Building

Hi Readers,

In this posting we’re going to talk about the 3 types of termites that property and home owners in Southern California need to be alert to and how to detect them. Lets talk about termite signs.

There are three termite species that infest California. These are the subterranean (which is common worldwide ) ; the California drywood and the Pacific dampwood. Of these, the  subterranean termites are most common.

When it comes to termites, detection in and of itself is not always the most complicated aspect of a termite problem. Correctly interpreting termite signs to determine species, extent of infestation and, most importantly to the property owner, the proper course of treatment are the issues that separate the true professional from the laymen.

So if you suspect a problem start by checking yourself. If you see the small beige, brown, or black droppings or even more telling but harder to spot; brown mud tubes or tunnels, this is an indication of a subterranean termite presence. The issue then is what size is the colony.

Drywood termites also leave signs that can be readily detected. Things like shed wings or ejected pellets, galleries inside wood, both which are distinctive in appearance, are typical signs of a drywood termite infestation.

As there name suggests Dampwood termites love wood with a high moisture content. Because Dampwoods are commonly found infesting large trees they are not always a serious structural pest, but still, a termite is a termite so they can and will do substantial damage if left untreated.

In structures they need sources of water to thrive. Are there any leaks in your structures roof?  Correcting moisture problems and wood replacement are effective controls.

Swarming ants are many times confused with drywood termites, but their differences are easy to recognize with experience.
