How To Get Rid of Termites

Hi-Tech’s microwaving Technology!
Hi-Tech’s termite control techniques are clean and efficient. Once termites are located in specific wall framing, the magnatron is set-up and microwaving is performed in infested areas.

Getting rid of termites using Hi-Tech’s innovative technique of microwave technology in conjunction with state approved chemicals, like Termidor and Premise 2 is a clean, low toxic, efficient solution. This could be the perfect answer for your termite problem.

Microwave technology for eradicating termites has been in use for over 20 years. It’s been refined and upgraded ever since and hi-tech is on the forefront of using the latest technology to better server their customers from Los Angeles County all the way to San Diego. Also if your home or building needs to be tented we can do that too.

Drywood Termite Detection and Treatment

Hello Readers! Let’s talk about Drywood Termite detection and treatment.

Drywood termites are a problem for property owners in Southern California. These jurasic hold outs are out there and are as dedicated to survival as ever. So in our experience, when it comes to drywoood termites, it comes down to detection and treatment.

Drywood Termite DETECTION

Drywood termites are secretive insects and are difficult to detect. They live deep inside wood and, except during periods when they swarm or when repair work is being done on infested homes, they are seldom seen.

Drywood termites are found in the structure by a visual inspection and detection devices. Colonies are small (usually fewer than 1,000 individuals), can be widely dispersed, and take years to mature. While a homeowner may initially detect the presence of termites when they swarm or if fecal pellets are discovered, inspecting for drywood termites and determining the extent of an infestation require experience.

Drywood Termite Treatment

If we detect a colony early and/or if the infestation is in a reasonably accessible area property owners have an effective treatment option that Hi-Tech is expert in: Microwaving using the Magnatron. (cool huh?)

Treating drywood termites (and dampwood termites) using Hi-Tech’s innovative technique of microwave technology in conjunction with state approved chemicals, like Termidor and Premise 2 is a clean, low toxic, efficient solution. This could be the perfect answer for your termite problem. Here’s how it works.

The microwave technology Hi Tech uses for eradicating termites has been refined and upgraded for 20 years. It is a clean and efficient technique to treat drywood termites in inaccessible areas such as wall voids and ceilings

Once termites are located in specific wall framing, the magnatron is set-up and microwaving is performed in infested areas heating the area to about 200 degrees. Termites are over 90% water and boil to death. There are also low toxic chemicals used in certain applications depending on where the nest is located.

Microwaving is minimally invasive, causing no structural damage, Hi-Tech technicians do not walk on your roof with the microwave system and treatment times usually run about six (6) hours on the average home allowing you to return to your home as soon as the treatment is completed.

As fantastic as the magnatron is there are instances where it’s application is impractical and other techniques are called for.

In future posts we’ll talk more about our local species of dampwood and also subterranean termites that Southern California home and property owners need to be alert to and how to deal with them. Remember if you are in need of San Diego termite control call Hi-Tech today!

Termites, like most insects, are really interesting critters.

As we mentioned in previous posts there are over 4000 different types of termites.

Can you imagine 4,000 different species of people?

Yikes!

Now as it turns out a lot of these species are very important to their local enviroments as their recycling of wood and other plant matter is of considerable ecological importance.

In Kenya, for instance,  termites are literally part of the landscape. Workers (termites, like ants and bees, have a caste system) build giant mounds above ground.

In So Cal, here in the US, our biggest worry are three types of termite: drywood, dampwood and subterranian.

Now these local species are not as crazy as some species, like the Formosan subterranean termite, that are common overseas; and unfortunately for us are an invasive species in the US. This is one of the most destructive termite species. It causes tremendous property damage resulting in enormous treatment and repair costs. It is sometimes referred to as the “Super Termite” because:

  • It has large colonies.
  • The territory of a single colony can be up to 300 feet.
  • It infests a wide variety of structures (including boats and high-rise condominiums).
  • It eats wood at a rapid rate.

But our indigenous species are still as dedicated to their work as they could possibly be.  If you’re a property owner with a termite problem you know how dedicated these guys can be.

In future posts we’ll talk more about our local species of drywoood, dampwood and also subterranean termites that Southern California home and property owners need to be alert to and how to deal with them. Remember if you are in need of San Diego termite control call Hi-Tech today!

What is Termite Control? Let’s Start With What Are Termites.

What is Termite Control? Seems like an obvious question doesn’t it? That is until you try and get an answer. Let’s start with what exactly termites are.

Wikipedia defines termites as, “a group of eusocial insects that, until recently, were classified at the taxonomic rank of order Isoptera but are now accepted as the epifamily Termitoidae, of the cockroach order Blattaria. While termites are commonly known, especially in Australia, as “white ants,” they are not closely related to true ants.”

According to various studies there might be 4,000 different kinds of termites.  Now you might ask,  “How do you control that!?”

Being smarter then a termite is our only chance to do so.

In future posts we’ll talk about the type of termites that home and property owners need to be alert to and how to deal with them. And to make you feel better we’ll talk about some exotic species that we can thank our lucky stars we don’t have to deal with!

Until next time,

Termites and Biofuel Technology Discovery

As a termite control company we keep up to date on all news termite. We found a cool news story about how termites are helping with biofuel technology.

As we all know everyone is trying to turn “green” and no more so than the automotive industry. For that reason ethanol is the most commonly used biofuel in the world. The problem is it’s made by fermenting the sugar components of plant materials, usually sugar and starch crops such as sugar cane, corn and wheat. There has been a lot of criticism that the use of food crops for biofuel production has a bad effect on the food supply has prompted research into biofuels that can be made from things such as trees and grasses.

By looking at the digestive system of termites, researchers have now discovered a cocktail of enzymes that unlocks access to the sugars stored within the cells of woody biomass that could help make it a more viable source of biofuels, such as ethanol. Basically the Scharf Laboratory found that enzymes in termite guts are instrumental in the insects’ ability to break down the wood they eat.

This will be used to help break down the barriers blocking access to sugars contained in biomass and inhibiting their use in fuel production.

Summer Is On For Termites

The first days of summer have already come and gone and the activity inside termite colonies are beginning to settle down to the hum-drum events of foraging and eating. Most of the frantic activity of releasing the “swammers” has already passed. This means that summer is a good time to get outside (and inside) and inspect your home for signs that you have termites before it’s too late.

Here are a few quick ways to tell if you have a termite problem:

Piles of insect wings are usually a sign of there being a termite colony nearby. Termites are sometimes mistaken for flying ants, but they will shed their wings once they’ve settled on a new place to colonize. Ants do not do this.

Another obvious sign of termites are termite mud tubes. Because they move from the colony to the food source, termites often create tubes or tunnels. Look for these at the places where your home meets the soil, like basement walls and floors.

Then there is softening wood. If you start to see dips, cracks or crevices in your hardwood flooring it could be the result of a termite colony. Wood that begins to flake, fall apart or turn to dust should be further investigated.

Of course the best action you can take is to get a free termite inspection from a professional termite control company.
