Termidor® Treatments for Drywood and Subterranean Termites

June 29, 2017by

Termites can be difficult to exterminate, which is why you should leave termite control to the professionals. When you have a termite infestation, you have a serious problem on your hands, since termites can devour the wood structure of your home. It’s important to act quickly in order to mitigate the damage that termites can cause, and to keep a termite colony from splitting and infesting other areas of your home. Fortunately there are numerous solutions to termites. Here at Hi-Tech Termite Control, we provide microwave termite treatments, fumigation termite treatments, and treatments with a chemical called Termidor® for our neighbors throughout Southern California. Today, we’re going to talk about that latter treatment. Let’s talk about what Termidor is, how it can be applied to kill off termites, and how it can be utilized to keep termites from coming to your home.

What Is Termidor?

Termidor is a termiticide (an insecticide for termites). It’s a patented formula that is a powerful tool for termite exterminators. You must have a certification from Termidor to apply the chemical to properties. Termidor has a huge impact, since termites can’t detect that Termidor is poisonous. In fact, termites willingly interact with Termidor; then they transfer the chemical to other termites in the colony; and then affected termites die, thus killing off the whole population of a colony. Termidor can be utilized around the outside of a home (acting as a barrier, while killing off nearby colonies), and it can be utilized within a home to kill off current infestations. Termidor is effective against both drywood and subterranean termites.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites, unlike subterranean termites, can thrive without having contact with the ground. That means that this termite species can reside anywhere within your home, so long as there’s a source of wood for consumption. Thus, you can find drywood termites in your attic, as well as your basement. For this reason, drywood termites often go unnoticed, until there is a substantial colony or notable damage. What’s worse, drywood termites don’t usually stray from the tunnels they create within wood structures, so a colony can go unnoticed for years.

Fortunately, Termidor can be injected into wood structures if a colony has been spotted. Again, termites will come into contact with the termiticide and transfer the poison to other termites in the colony, thus killing off the populous.

Double the Impact

Take note, Termidor alone may not be a reliable solution to kill off the whole colony. It’s best to pair Termidor treatments with microwave termite treatments, which kill termite eggs, as well as termite queens, workers, and soldiers. Microwave termite treatments are non-invasive, efficient termite control treatments. A termite control expert will inspect your home, assess the location of a colony, and utilize a specialized microwave tool to kill termites within your home structure.

If you have a drywood termite infestation, talk to your termite control specialist to see if Termidor and microwave termite treatments should be used to ensure that an infestation is completely wiped out.

Subterranean Termites

Termidor can also be used to deter subterranean termites. For subterranean termites, Termidor is applied around the perimeter of a home. A Termidor Certified Professional will create a continuous layer of Termidor that surrounds the foundation of a home. Liquid Termidor is used to penetrate the soil surrounding a home, which keeps subterranean termites from reaching your home’s foundation. Termidor can effectively wipe out a termite population in three months or less. Best of all, Termidor can protect a home for 15 years or more. You can learn more about Termidor from their site.
